Hervey Bay Happenings 20-21st October

The first regatta of the season!

I will try to keep this short …… It was grey skies, blowy winds with lots of squalls with a small swell. Coming home was against the wind and hard work. Our small contingent from the club were a very happy bunch and we had a great time.

But boy did I realise that I need more training………!! Our team were in the Snr Master Women’s and boy are our competitors tough and fit – there are no grannies out there. We worked well as a team and gave it our best. Pam was our steerer and she knows how to make the best of the conditions and as well as get the most out of her team – tks.

The men worked hard and gave it their all. When we greeted them after their event you could see on their faces – they were stuffed!

That night we all got together at (Lyndon’s, Marina’s, Karins, Bretts accommodation) – shared some lovely white wine, ate delicacies Lyndon had prepared, sat out on their balcony and had some good laughs. Everyone retired fairly early as we were all buggered and all were paddling again in the morning.

Sunday – we thought the day would be better, but the weather was worse. We all felt we had competed better than the Saturday and there was a good team spirit! It’s great to come back from a race and have your team buddies waiting on the beach to give you a hug and that bit of encouragement no matter where you come…….thanks team.

It’s great to see everyone on the water.

Cheers, Marianne
