Northcliffe Pursuit Regatta, 07/08

And around rolled the Northcliffe Pursuit Regatta for 2007-2008 season!

This year, falling on the 10th of MOVEMBER, this season’s pursuit regatta threw us some curly weather changes throughout the day.

The first battle was fought way before any racing began with beachfront land in high demand and the wind blowing, the BOCC tent took some putting up. We got there in the end, although we had to tie it down to something – and that something ended up being Scotty’s Ute!

BOCC was represented in the Senior Master and Open Womens, Master, Open and Novice Men and Mixed divisions.

The Senior Master Women were up first with a good strong wind in their faces to start. The wind and boat swell were up on the return leg, and off they went again for another two laps. With Pam at the helm the girls worked really hard and got their money’s worth, securing themselves a 6th.

Next up was the Open Women, looking strong and focused. The wind dropped only slightly for the girls giving them a good mix of conditions. With Pam steering again, (the woman is superhuman!) the crew finished strong and picked themselves up a 4th place. Congratulations girls. What would we do without you Pam!

Now the MEN! Gary Taylor and the Cook Island boys in the Masters, Nixy and Vernon steering crews in the Open Men. All crews flew out of the start, looking fantastic. They all seemed to be around the course in no time, the masters scoring a first place. The open men coming in 2nd and 5th. Excellent results for the guys. The novice men went out for their first foray into racing and by all reports had a great time, and picked up a 4th, again congrats guys.

Final race of the day was the mixed open. We had three novice girls who were keen as to get out there, so three guys backed up from their races to give the girls a taste of the racing heat. The girls enjoyed the experience and are biting at the bit to get some more racing under their belt. They did a great job, and have been training hard for the next race, sprints at Panamuna, Mooloolaba on the 2nd of February 2008.

We had great day all round. Thanks to Northcliffe OCC for a great event that’s was very spectator friendly. Thanks to everyone who got in to rig and de-rig, making a big job a whole lot easier. Thanks to Nixy and Scotty for driving the canoes down early and to all club members for their input leading up to and during the day. Looking forward to the next one, see you out there,

Wendy
