When to start
In outrigging we have a competition season, much like football or netball etc so it is important that you start in our pre-season period so you gradually gain fitness and technique.
The preseason training starts late September – early October
The racing season kicks off in November /December.

How to start
Come and Try Days- for men and women
Our next come and try day will be 19th September 2010

RAW programme – women only
This is a come and try day specifically for women

Novice Programme
This will kick off on the 3rd October
The cost will be $180.00
It will be over 3 Sundays from 9am-11am
This is a comprehensive programme to get you started in Outrigging and will include
• History of paddling
• History of our club
• Technique
• Practice on the river
• Theory and practical on capsize drills
• Rigging canoes

Of this course cost $65.00 will go towards your insurance with our national body AOCRA. If you join up as a full member of the club after this programme we will deduct $65.00 from your membership

Club paddles are available to use during this programme

What equipment will I need to buy if I join the club?
You will need a paddle which new will cost $270-$400 and a hydration pack
We can give you advice about what would suit you when you start in our club
When you race you will need a club shirt

When Do you train?
In preseason training will be on weekends usually Sundays at 6am and two mornings a week at 5am.

Is there any afternoon training ?
We anticipate that there will be afternoon training for those who start work early and finish early.

Expectations of training
In order to be race fit it will be necessary to commit yourself to at least 3 training sessions per week

Do I need to race?
We are essentially a racing club
We encourage everyone to race and try to fit everyone in teams based on their fitness, training adherence, technique etc.
In your first season there is a novice division so these races are shorter and usually in quieter ocean conditions with an experienced steerer.
Our racing season goes from Nov/December until late June. There will be a race every 3 weeks or so. Our race zone extends from Coffs Harbour to Hervey Bay. Most races will be on the Gold Coast and Sunshine coast.
There will be some sprints and then we move into the marathon season
The finale is in June with the Hamilton Island cup

Pre-requisites
You must be able to swim
You must understand that we paddle in the ocean
You must have reasonable upper body strength
